Emergency Conditions

Conditions that require immediate veterinary attention

These are situations where waiting is not safe. If your pet shows any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately rather than monitoring at home.

Difficulty Breathing

Open-mouth breathing, blue or pale gums, labored chest movement, or gasping are all signs of a respiratory emergency requiring immediate assessment.

Seizures

A single prolonged seizure or multiple seizures in quick succession require urgent neurological stabilization and monitoring.

Trauma

Road accidents, falls from height, animal attacks, or any significant physical injury — even if your pet appears stable, internal injuries may not be visible.

Poisoning

Ingestion of toxic foods, household chemicals, plants, medications, or pest control products. Time to treatment is critical in poisoning cases.

Foreign Body Ingestion

Swallowing toys, bones, fabric, or other objects that may cause obstruction or internal injury requires urgent imaging and possibly emergency surgery.

Collapse

Sudden inability to stand, extreme weakness, or loss of consciousness can indicate cardiac, neurological, or systemic emergencies.

Uncontrolled Bleeding

External wounds that do not stop bleeding with pressure, or suspected internal bleeding following trauma, require immediate emergency attention.

When in doubt, come in.

It is always better to have your pet seen and reassured than to wait while a serious condition worsens. Emergency cases are triaged on arrival and treated by urgency.

Emergency Care Process

What happens when you arrive with an emergency

Emergency cases follow a structured clinical pathway designed to assess and stabilize your pet as quickly and safely as possible from the moment you arrive.

01

Triage

On arrival, your pet is assessed immediately to determine the severity of their condition and establish treatment priority.

02

Stabilization

Oxygen support, IV access, fluid therapy, and pain management are initiated as needed to stabilize your pet before further diagnostics.

03

Diagnostics

Blood tests, imaging, urinalysis, and other in-house diagnostics are run rapidly to identify the underlying cause of the emergency.

04

Treatment

Based on findings, the appropriate treatment plan is initiated — which may include medication, emergency surgery, or intensive supportive care.

05

Monitoring

Patients are closely monitored during and after treatment. The team tracks vital signs, response to therapy, and recovery progress.

Why Immediate Care Matters

In emergencies, minutes have a direct impact on outcomes

Many veterinary emergencies are time-sensitive. Conditions such as airway obstruction, internal bleeding, severe poisoning, pyometra, and urinary obstruction can deteriorate rapidly without medical intervention. Early triage, rapid diagnostics, and prompt stabilization significantly improve the chances of recovery.

Pets also hide pain and distress very effectively. By the time obvious symptoms appear, the underlying condition may already be advanced. Erring on the side of caution and seeking assessment early is always the safer choice.

Faster stabilization

Early IV access and fluid support prevents deterioration.

Rapid diagnostics

In-house blood tests and imaging confirm the cause quickly.

Pain relief

Prompt pain management reduces suffering and secondary stress.

Better recovery

Early intervention is consistently associated with better outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency care questions answered

What counts as a pet emergency?
A pet emergency is any situation where your pet's life, vision, a limb, or the ability to breathe may be at immediate risk. This includes difficulty breathing, collapse, uncontrolled bleeding, suspected poisoning, seizures, severe trauma, inability to urinate, abdominal pain, or extreme distress. When in doubt, come in — it is always better to have your pet assessed than to wait.
Should I come to the clinic immediately?
Yes. If your pet shows any signs of a medical emergency, come to the clinic immediately or call ahead so the team can be ready on your arrival. Do not wait to see if symptoms improve on their own when a serious condition is suspected. Early intervention significantly improves outcomes.
Do you accept walk-ins for emergencies?
Yes. Emergency walk-in cases are accepted and triaged on arrival based on clinical urgency. Calling ahead when possible helps the team prepare for your arrival, but emergency cases are never turned away during clinic hours.
